Subcurrent
Subcurrent is the collaboration between saxophonist Jenny Frøysa and singer Jakob Nordli Leirvik, both from the jazz and improvised music scene in Trondheim, Norway. Together they explore different textures and ambient soundscapes, moving from what could sound like neat embroidery to vivid waves. Subcurrent is a heartfelt experience based on minimalist compositions from an improvisational starting point.
The definition of the word ‘subcurrent’ is: a not clearly revealed or formulated direction of thought, intention, action, etc., underlying what is manifested. This is what Leirvik and Frøysa try to create; complex soundscapes inspired by different emotions and ideas, woven together using the voice, the saxophone and electronics.
